This is my twin…

Everyone has their person, you know like Christina and Meredith on Greys’. I have Lauren and I call her Bailey (cause it’s her last name) or bales….or twin. We are “twins” because we share the same birthday and it’s kind of a joke at work. We are twins but we could not be more different physically. She is young at 28 but wise beyond her years and she is stunningly beautiful, thin, long blond hair and has an  amazing personality and spirit.  People are very much drawn to her and for good reason.

I hired her many years ago to work in the box office with me, little did I know she would become one of my best friends. She worked her way up in the company and now deals with artists, and during the season she is the person who makes sure all the singers have everything they need. It gets crazy during that time and I see a little less of her as we are both really busy and our paths don’t cross quite as much during that hectic time.  Busy or not she is one of the people who I can call anytime of day or night and not say a word and she is right there, she knows what to do, what to say, she knows how I tick…cause she ticks the same  way much of the time too! Twins.

We both have some of the same crazy habits…like self diagnosing ourselves on web md….it is not unusual for one of us to call the other and say ” i have had a cough for three days…. do I have Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis?” We always talk each other down and remind each other that only 1 in 100,000 million get the disease we have self diagnosed.  She loves animals especially dogs and rabbits. She has crawled into Tristan’s crate to comfort him when he has been scared, and she has helped me hoist him out of the pond when he got a little too excited about being outside! I  love the person she is, I love her free spirit, her grace and her calming effect on me when I am in the middle of a crisis. She has saved me more than once.

Okay so back to the busy star studded season…so after the end of it all, bales was putting pictures up she took during the season on Facebook. I think she put up like 50 pictures, so many with amazingly beautiful and talented (some  famous) people she hung around with during the summer. She had put up three pictures of us together at a party and I looked at one of them and thought..”ugh…I look like the broad side of a barn, I am going to tell her to delete that one, it looks terrible.” I got busy doing something and when I went to send her a message I saw that on her profile pic she put up that very picture of us together. Of all the pictures she could have put up, she chose one of us. In a second I went from thinking it was a horrible picture of me to seeing that what came through in that picture was not my size, but an amazing friendship that is very special to me.  Lauren has always seen through the girth, through the walls, through the bullshit and is still able to see the best in me.

You knew it was coming….(cue the indigo girls lyrics)

And I don’t know
How you show
Such gentle disregard
For the ugly in me
That I see
That for so long
I took so hard
And I truly believe
That you see the best in me

It’s always good to have a twin handy to save you from yourself…and web md…..

  1. Lauren says:

    I. love. you!

  2. Moody says:

Do you girls get that “saying the exact same thing at the exact same time” too? I have a few people I do that with, my mom for starters, but I do it with one of my best friends as well.
As if you’re reading each other’s mind.

When I’m working on one of my stories (I post them in chunks to work up the excitement), she’s usually pretty close to what I’ve got in store for my characters (and my readers), or sometimes, she’ll say something and I’ve already written it, but haven’t posted it yet.
    It’s crazy scary at times.
I keep telling her to stay out of my mind coz it’s a dangerous place to be. LOL.

And honestly …. you two look fab together!!!!
One can practically tell just from that picture, that you compliment each other.

Gotta love the “cosmic connection” we have with certain people.

  3. Cathy says:

How blessed we are to have such wonderful people in our lives. Why is it we spend so much time worrying about what we should be rather than caring for the person we are. Just a thought. xxoo Cathy

  5. Rachel says:

Great article! It’s important to have that twin in your life!! I was fortunate enough to meet mine when I was eight years old! People literally confuse us as sisters all the time because of how we act around each other.
